Greg Brittain oversees the Underwriting Department’s functions as its VP and Senior Underwriter. Greg responsibilities include oversight for the underwriting of risks ranging from complex and hard to place, with emphasis on large Workers’ Compensation. Greg’s expertise includes harder to place classes, high deductible programs, multi-state exposures and placements in programs ranging from guaranteed cost to Loss Sensitive and Retroactive Plans. Greg also oversees the Alternative Risk Department, which includes ASO and PEO solutions with a particular emphasis on risk mitigation and loss control. His responsibilities are to ensure that each account is underwritten on an individual basis and these programs may include or carve out any number of services so as to provide a tailor-made solution for each particular risk.
Prior to his arrival at Empire, Greg played a key factor in the development, management, and control of a very large and profitable book of workers’ compensation business written through numerous carriers in the Southeastern States. Greg has experience in most commercial lines of insurance, having successfully assumed numerous management roles throughout his career. He has been in the insurance industry for 32 years with his career encompassing impressive tenures with such firms as Liberty Mutual and Willis in the property casualty and workers’ compensation fields. He has been intimately involved in all manner of development, underwriting and production resulting in stellar growth for the firms he has served for over three decades.

fA graduate of West Virginia University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Rusty is a highly experienced surplus lines professional. He successfully directed and grew general agencies with Delaware Valley Underwriting Agency (DVUA) in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio for over 20 years, and then 8 more years in the same capacity with Hull and Company after they acquired DVUA in 2006. He has profitably managed binding authority contracts involving Commercial General Liability, Commercial Property, Excess and Umbrella, Professional, Workers’ Compensation, and Transportation Lines of Insurance, and conducted surplus lines activities in more than 30 states. Additionally, Rusty served as a Navigator for 21 years with the U. S. Air Force Reserve. A decorated veteran of Southeast Asian, Central American, and Persian Gulf Operations, he retired with honors as a Major in 1994. He is known in the wholesale insurance community as a reliable partner with high standards of professionalism and excellent leadership abilities.
